Critical Fabulations
Exploring writing inviting surprising connections, clarity, and imagination
Writing can be used to generate ideas and as a tool for experimentation in artistic practice. This course is designed to help artists explore writing creatively, encouraging social connection and imagination. Together we will discover the potential of various experimental approaches to writing utilising sound, voice, landscape, drawing, performance and sculpture.
The course is suitable for individuals with an artistic practice a provides a welcoming and safe space to explore writing within a studio setting.

Introduction
. Work within a group on prompt and activity, incorporating tools given. Present to class and provide group feedback.
Group exercise
. Welcoming guest artist to talk and present their art in this format and practice.
Artist talk
. Choose between a variety of writing prompts provided and explore using the tools and materials given.
Writing prompts
. Gather to discuss practices, storytelling, different mediums and the way we explore topics.
Group discussion
. Break out to individual studio time to expand on previous activities. Instructors will have one on one tutor time during this time.

Dr. Sharon Young​
Creative Lead for Future Skills

Dr Sharon Young is an artist and lecturer at Glasgow School of Art working on feminist strategies of subversion through multi-disciplinary approaches to image and text. She is interested in visual representations of language and voice especially around ideas of gendered and marginalized experiences. She works with photography, moving image, letterpress and performance but is always open to trying new mediums.
